why we have emotional, mental, physical, spiritual, & visual clutter part 1

Clutter accumulates fast. my grandmother had a figure of speech that said, ” You lie quicker than a cat can wink its eye. the same can be true of clutter. it happens fast. However, to get to a point of serious clutter, or hoarding, it doesn’t happen in a matter of minutes or seconds. That’s the quick version of it.

It’s the daily, monthly, and yearly habits that got things to the way they currently are. It’s the lack of systems in place for managing everything you own. In other words, it’s a slow burn. and that slow burn affectds your nervous system, ability to think, execute, plan, remember, and function in normal situations.

visual clutter can often mimic adhd symptoms, cause brain fog and fatigue, and eye fatigue.

but why do we get to this point in the first place? there are several reasons. today we are only going to explore 5 of them.

  1. decision fatigue-there are too many items to make decisions about. your brain shuts down and says, “we’re done!” after feeling overwhelmed and out of decision-making options for the day.
  2. trying to relive the past-you come across the clothes you wore to your baby shower, bridal shower, or the day you gave birth. you are attached to the events of that day, good and bad, trauma and triumph, so you believe that the clothes will preserve the memory instead of the brain itself.
  3. underutilized and overutilized space-you have tons of space in some drawers and or cabinets, but you’re not using them. Yet, there are other spots that you are overfilling the containers to the point of them cracking.
  4. inherited clutter-because of scarcity mindset, every time a relative dies, you make it your mission to obtain ownership of their belongings.
  5. lack of self-awareness about daily habits that lack systems-when we lack self-awareness, we keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again. these mistakes include our daily habits. we need to become so self-aware that we end up with systems for our activities of daily living from the time we wake up till the time we go to bed. that way, instead of saying, ” i’ll get that in a few minutes.”, or, “after i rest for one hour.” the self-aware you says,” how did this go the last time? not good! let’s get it done now.”

it takes a while to eliminate clutter. but once you start, you won’t want to stop until you’ve decluttered and revamped systems for your entire household.

enjoy life’s simple pleasures one unique design, space, style, & organization at a time.

be blessed!
